America’s Economy Gets Worse While Obama Vacations in Martha’s Vineyard

Obama in Martha's VineyardI don’t think anybody would disagree with the fact that running our country isn’t exactly the easiest of jobs. Having that much responsibility, pressure and criticism on your plate each and every day would take its toll on even the most strong willed people. That being said, I think don’t think it is entirely unreasonable for our country’s president to take a vacation every now and then.

If I was the leader of one of the world’s biggest superpowers, I would probably want a few days to relax myself, though I do not think I would do it quite like Barack Obama and family are doing it as Obama, his family and entourage have just set off for a 10-day vacation to the lavish and ritzy Martha’s Vineyard.

Obama’s annual vacation to the fancy island is already facing major scrutiny from politicians and citizens, and he’s barely unpacked yet. Republicans are criticizing Obama for taking time off when our country is in one of the worst times of economic turmoil ever as well as choosing the lavish island of Martha’s Vineyard to do so.

Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts Governor, has slammed Obama for “vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard” as opposed to working to create jobs in the country. However, despite all the barbs and jabs thrown at him, Obama seems unconcerned. Obama has been criticized for vacationing at Martha’s Vineyard for the last two summers with no long-term political repercussions.

However, the extreme struggles of our country’s economy, along with a rapidly fluctuating stock market make the optics of Obama’s vacation a little more complicated. A similar situation faced former President Bill Clinton back in 1995. Back then, Clinton decided not to go to his typical vacation spot at Martha’s Vineyard, instead opting for a 5-day trip to Wyoming.

However, after Clinton was re-elected in 1996, he began returning to Martha’s Vineyard. Obama, on the other hand, has no intentions of doing anything remotely close to that. It is no surprise that Obama and his family will try their hardest to stay out of the media’s eye. Obama doesn’t want any photo being leaked that would show Obama being out of touch with average Americans.

I’m all for the president taking a vacation, I mean, he doesn’t exactly have the easiest of jobs. What I do have a problem with is the location of said vacation. Martha’s Vineyard is definitely a vacation getaway for the rich and famous. With the absolute disarray that our economy is currently in, it doesn’t quite seem fair that Obama gets to vacation in Martha’s Vineyard while the rest of the country has to deal with the threat of unemployment, debt and other economic woes. As somebody who campaigned as a supporter of the average, middle-class American, Obama certainly doesn’t act like one.

Liberal Media Plots To Save Obama And Kills The MSM In The Process

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

If you’ve followed politics for the past…well, forever, you know the media is not above denying a story air time to push an agenda. It’s been a little dirty “conspiracy” because no one could ever really prove such a blatant bias. No one was ever really able to pin down anything more than a “slight liberal slant” from an other wise “objective” journalist with anything more than an opinion. We needed hard proof. But now it’s all out there, thanks to the Daily Caller for uncovering emails from JournoList.

For those who depend on print and liberal media to get your “news” you may have never heard of JournoList. The Daily Caller has a good list of stories that cover the initial exposure to the final nail in the coffin. Here. Here. And Here. And in Dave Weigel’s own words, here.

The real meat doesn’t lie in the fact that this JournoList email list-serv exists, it’s what was happening behind the scenes as we all watched the 2008 presidential campaigns unfold. Liberal members of network, print, cable and internet media were conspiring to bury stories to protect then Presidential Candidate, Barack Obama. And I don’t use “conspiring” in a fear monger fashion, I use it because it is a fact. An undeniable truth. Supposed “objective journalists”, if there ever was such a thing, put a lot of work into burying the Rev. Wright story and to paint Republicans and the Right as racists.

According to The Daily Caller:

at several points during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate. Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage.

In one instance, Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent urged his colleagues to deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.

The list of organizations involved are stunning, to say the least. Time, Politico, The Huffington Post, et al played a very critical role in what people were learning about candidates and how opinions were being formed. The fact that their names were all over a conspiracy to “protect” a candidate not only shows blatant bias, but shows how much power they had and how much they knew they could get away with. They used this JournoList as a “war room” to organize and work out their plans to skew the American opinion of Rev. Wright and Obama’s connection to him.

Thomas Schaller, a columnist for the Baltimore Sun as well as a political science professor, upped the ante from there. In a post with the subject header, “why don’t we use the power of this list to do something about the debate?” Schaller proposed coordinating a “smart statement expressing disgust” at the questions Gibson and Stephanopoulos had posed to Obama. [Re: A debate in which the aforementioned moderators questioned Obama about Rev. Wright by asking, “Do you think Rev. Wright loves America as much as you do?”]

“It would create quite a stir, I bet, and be a warning against future behavior of the sort,” Schaller wrote.

Tomasky approved. “YES. A thousand times yes,” he exclaimed.

The members began collaborating on their open letter. Jonathan Stein of Mother Jones rejected an early draft, saying, “I’d say too short. In my opinion, it doesn’t go far enough in highlighting the inanity of some of [Gibson’s] and [Stephanopoulos’s] questions. And it doesn’t point out their factual inaccuracies …Our friends at Media Matters probably have tons of experience with this sort of thing, if we want their input.”

The Daily Caller story proved what so many of us knew back then, these “journalists” were using illusions to convince people that what they were seeing was not real and the things being said about Rev. Wright and Obama were simply the Right being typical racist fear-mongers. Even while many of them knew that defending Rev. Wright was disgusting, they had to protect Obama. It’s no wonder stories like Breitbart’s ACORN investigation, never really got the coverage it deserved.

Andrew Breitbart said it best today when he said, “The only way that the media will recover from the horrifying discoveries found in the Journolist is to investigate and investigate until every guilty reporter, professor and institution is laid bare begging America for forgiveness. Will they do it?”

My answer: No. They won’t. They don’t have the guts.
