Indiana High School Student Expelled Over Profane Tweet

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Austin CarrollEver wonder what schools can and can’t do to a student after school hours? Well, if you attend Indiana’s Garrett High School, they can expel you. According to a recent story, Garrett High senior Austin Carroll was recently expelled from school after he posted a rather profane tweet on his personal Twitter account.

Did the tweet target the school? No. Another student or teacher at the school? No. Was it threatening? No. Was it violent? Nope. Was it possibly stupid and unnecessary? Probably, but that still doesn’t justify the punishment. Austin’s exact tweet was as follows: “F*** is one of those F****** words you can F****** put anywhere in a F****** sentence and it still F******* makes sense.” If you can’t fill in the blanks then stop reading this immediately.

What we have here is a high school senior attempting to be funny on a site where, I’m assuming, many of his peers would be able to see the message. For this message and this message alone, Austin was removed from Garrett High School a mere three months before his senior graduation.

Many of you are probably trying to justify this in your heads. The only thing you can probably think of is whether or not Austin sent this tweet during school hours or from a school computer. And the answer to that is also no. According to Austin, he sent the tweet from his personal computer at around 2:30 in the morning.

Austin stated in an interview, “If my account is on my own personal account, I don’t think the school or anybody should be looking at it. Because it’s my own personal stuff and it’s none of their business.” But how did the school find out about the tweet? Is Austin followed by his teachers or did a brown-nosing student report him?

According to the school’s principal, regardless of whether the tweet was sent from home or, indeed, whether a school computer was used, the school may track students’ tweets. Austin may have simply logged onto the school’s internet connection the next day, hopped on Twitter and had all of his tweets tracked by the school’s system.

Regardless, there seems to be more than enough evidence that proves Austin sent the tweet in the early hours of the morning, even though the school is reportedly maintaining that the tweet was sent with its IP address. It honestly doesn’t matter where the tweet was sent from. Does something like this justify complete expulsion from school? I say nay, nay.

Garrett High School is no longer commenting on the incident per advice from its attorney, and students have gotten behind Austin. Some students even threatened to protest, so much so that the police were called to address the potential issue. What say you? Does Austin deserved to be expelled for his, albeit, dumb tweet?

Can Obama Really Control Gas Prices?

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

gas pricesI don’t know if you have noticed or not, but gas prices are on the rise yet again. There was a time, not more than a few months ago, when gas was getting as low as $2.98 a gallon. Now those times have changed with prices back up to nearly $4 in most areas and even higher in others. Lots of citizens are fuming over the rates and they want answers.

Many people are blaming Obama for the prices. They’re not so much accusing him of raising them but of not doing anything to decrease them. According to a recent poll conducted by CBS and the New York Times, 54% of respondents believe that Obama can do a lot to control gas prices. What’s more is that nearly two-thirds of the respondents to an ABC and Washington Post poll disapprove of Obama’s handling of the situation.

The people have good reason to blame the Obama administration as well, due to the fact that Obama criticized former President George W. Bush over the exact same issue when he campaigned in 2008. According to a statement from Obama to a crowd in Ohio, “You’re paying nearly $3.70 a gallon for gas – 2 1/2 times what it cost when President Bush took office.” Obviously not much has changed, has it?

However, most analysts don’t blame Obama for the increase in gas prices but instead say that rising tension with Iran is the primary factor. The rising tension is making traders nervous about a possible conflict in a crucial oil-producing region. If conflict does break out in Iran then a significant source of the world’s oil would be cut off.

Increased prices may also stem from the fact that Japan has been using increasingly more amounts of the “black gold” since shutting down nearly all of the country’s nuclear power plants after the Fukushima disaster last year. In addition to that, conflicts in countries like Sudan, Yemen, Syria and Libya have halted oil production from those countries.

Republicans believe that more domestic drilling the United States would help decrease prices. Gingrich says, if elected, that he has a plan to reduce gas prices to as low as $2.50 a gallon. However, citizens want immediate results and any plan to reduce gas prices, whether from domestic drilling or forcing automakers to make more fuel-efficient vehicles, would take years to go into effect.

The Democrats have a different theory in that greedy Wall Street speculators are driving up prices in order to make some quick profits. The Dems also believe that the Obama administration could help lower gas prices by cracking down on this, though even if it were true, most experts believe that global oil markets are too big for any regulators to police.

The absolute last option would be for Obama to dip into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This was done back in 1991 during the first Iraq war, right after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and then again last year by Obama himself during Libya’s civil war. However, this would only be a temporary relief.

This definitely looks very bad for Obama and his administration, especially considering the fact that in both the CBS and New York Times poll and the ABC and Washington Post poll Obama saw drastic decreases in his overall approval rating. The silver lining is, for Obama at least, that oil/gas prices on their own don’t do much in determining a presidential election, according to the New York Times’ stat specialist Nate Silver.

However, rising gas prices would definitely hurt our economic recovery by giving Americans less money in their pockets. As a result, consumer spending would decrease and the economy would get worse, something everybody, Democrats and Republicans alike, would most definitely blame Obama for.

Obama Trying to Force Military Personnel into Obamacare by Cutting Military Health Care, Union Workers Unaffected

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

military personnel“President” Obama is trying very hard to cut our nation’s defense spending. Obama thinks that we are spending way too much money (which, honestly, we are) but is cutting our defense really the best place to start? What’s even worse is that in trying to cut spending, the Obama Administration is also planning on cutting health benefits for active duty and retired military personnel and their families while the benefits given to unionized civilian defense workers won’t be touched.

Congressional aids believe that this move is an attempt by Obama to force these military personnel into Obamacare. According to Bill Gertz of The Washington Free Beacon, “The proposed increase in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by Congress, is part of the Pentagon’s $487 billion cut in spending. It seeks to save $1.8 billion from the Tricare medical system in the fiscal 2013 budget, and $12.9 billion by 2017.”

What this basically means is that military personnel would see their Tricare premiums increase anywhere from 30% to 78% in the first year alone. After that, their premiums could increase exponentially, “ranging from 94% to 345%, more than three times the current level. According to congressional assessments, a retired Army colonel with a family currently paying $460 a year for health care will pay $2,048,” Gertz added.

In addition to higher premiums, active duty personnel would also see an increase in the price of pharmaceuticals with the incentive to use cheaper, generic drugs disappearing. Health benefits have also been a big reason many people sign up for the military. If you take that away then it could greatly decrease recruitment and retention.

Human Events’ John Hayward also added, “Veterans will also be hit with a new annual fee for a program called Tricare for Life, on top of the monthly premiums they already pay, while some benefits will become “means-tested” in the manner of a social program – treating them like welfare instead of benefits for military service. Naturally, this is all timed to begin next year and ‘avoid upsetting military voters in a presidential election year.'”

Aside from that, there are other concerns that this will provide a double standard between uniformed military personnel and civilian defense workers who belong to public sectors. Representative Howard McKeon (R-CA), Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, is standing by the troops on this issue.

According to McKeon, “We shouldn’t ask our military to pay our bills when we aren’t willing to impose a similar hardship on the rest of the population. We can’t keep asking those who have given so much to give that much more.” Nearly 5 million members of the 32 military service and veterans groups will join McKeon as they call the plan a “breach of faith.”

All this “hope” and “change” from Obama didn’t mean that he was going to change our country for the better and give the American people hope; it was I “hope” the American people don’t notice when I “change” the country from Democracy to Socialism. If he gets re-elected in 2012, I may seriously consider moving out of the country.

Roger Goodell Is Overpaid and Roddy White Isn’t Happy

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Roger GoodellEver wonder how much the Commissioner of the National Football League makes? If you have, you probably shouldn’t because the amount is high enough to make you wanna puke. I’m sure it comes as no surprise that the current NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, makes a lot of money, but it was recently reported by Football Talk that Goodell, by the year 2019, will be making a staggering $20 million a year.

If flames are currently shooting out of your nostrils, smoke is coming from your ears and you have officially blown your lid, don’t worry because you aren’t the only one. Wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons Roddy White also isn’t too pleased with the salary of Goodell and has taken to Twitter to express his discontent.

White’s tweets basically came together saying, “How in the hell can you pay a man this much money, that can’t run or tackle or catch? Roger Goodell is getting over, never seen anything like it, 20 million for looking over the league with tremendous help. I guess the NFL is banking. The NFL is not a company, it’s a nonprofit organization that makes a lot of profit.”

Granted, we do live in a Capitalist society where, if you can achieve it, you can make as much money as possible, even if that amount is enough to feed a third-world country for the next 20 years. In addition, it isn’t like White is underpaid, as the wide receiver just signed a 6-year contract with the Falcons worth $48 million.

I think what it boils down to is that everybody in the NFL (and all of sports for that matter), whether they be suit-wearing businessmen or helmet-wearing players, is overpaid. I mean let’s be honest, how does the NFL really benefit society? I’m not saying we should get rid of it or anything, I’m just saying maybe we need to reevaluate how much we pay people to play a game for 5 to 6 years.

Despicable Green Room Demands from Nicki Minaj

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Nicki MinajNicki Minaj is NOT someone I would refer to as an artist or a performer. I stretch both those words when I talk about Lady Gaga simply for the fact that I would fear for my life if I didn’t. Minaj, however, doesn’t deserve either. I personally believe she is trying to cash in on the eccentricity that has been made famous by Gaga and is nothing more than a poser.

That being said, I recently discovered what the so-called “artist” demands for her green room before every show. First off, Minaj demands 12 bottles of Martinelli’s Apple Juice and also requires that six of the bottles be room temperature and the other six be iced.

It has also been reported that Minaj’s favorite piece of fried chicken (insert stereotypical joke here) is the wing. That being the case, Minaj demands that there be “lots of wings” in her THREE 12-piece buckets of spicy fried chicken. Yeah, that’s right, Minaj demands three buckets of chicken which, for those of you keeping score at home, equals 36 pieces of chicken. People around the world are starving and this psycho is asking for 36 pieces of chicken.

As if that wasn’t enough, this ADHD “performer” also demands dried cranberries, raw almonds and 24 bottles of Dasani Water, 12 room temperature and 12 iced. Her breakfast demands are just as extravagant, consisting of egg whites scrambled hard (whatever that means), turkey bacon fried hard (again with the hard?), white toast with grape or strawberry jelly and Belgian waffles with syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, butter and strawberries.

But wait, there’s more! Ms. Psycho-diva also demands Snapple, Red Bull, assorted fruit juices, Simply Lemonade, a fruit platter, cheese platter, deli tray, 3 packs of gum, salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, green olives, Wishbone Light Italian dressing, Bumble Bee tuna and wheat or low fat crackers.

That’s it as far as food is concerned but Minaj also requests a few other things you can’t eat. Aside from the amount of food that could feed a family of four for a week, Minaj also demands two dozen pink or white roses, candles that smell like baked goods, Halls Mentho-Lyptus Honey Lemon Throat Cough Drops, contact lens solution with case, two space heaters and a cool mist humidifier.

To be honest, this makes me sick. There are so many people out there that are starving and struggling to get by and this disgrace of a human being is demanding 36 pieces of chicken, fruit platters, cheese platters, deli trays and all that other crap which, I am imagining, she only eats 10% of. People like this need to be dragged into an alley and beaten until they see the error of their ways and then beaten some more. And furthermore, Minaj doesn’t even have the fame to be demanding anything like this. She should be happy people actually show up for her concerts.

Major Websites Blackout in Protest of SOPA and PIPA

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Stop SOPA

SOPA…it’s a term that will be infamous amongst internet users forever. SOPA, otherwise known as the Stop Online Piracy Act, is a new government bill that some are trying desperately to get passed by Congress, to the great disdain of internet users around the world. On the surface the bill might sound like a good thing, trying to stop piracy and illegal activity on the internet. But dig deeper and you will find that SOPA is just another extreme form of internet censorship.

There is a whole lot to the bill itself, but in a nutshell, the bill would allow the government to shut down and deny access to any website that is deemed to have illegal material on it. This, naturally, has made a lot of website creators, developers and owners very upset, especially sites like Reddit and Wikipedia.

This bill has a lot of potential for bad. For example, Reddit finds it impossible to monitor every single thing users post on the site, which makes posting things of an illegal nature simple since there is no one to monitor it. If SOPA is enacted, and that illegal material was discovered, then the government could essentially shut down Reddit completely and deny access to everybody, even if the site and its operators had absolutely nothing to do with the material posted.

As a result of SOPA, as well as PIPA (Protect IP Act), a lot of major websites have staged an internet protest in the form of a blackout. Major websites, like Reddit, Google and WordPress have participated in the event. Google blacked out its logo and added the message “Tell Congress: Please don’t censor the Web!” The message was also linked to an online petition opposing SOPA in the U.S. House of Representatives and PIPA in the Senate.

The blackout is scheduled to last from 8:00 a.m. this morning until 8:00 p.m. (for most sites) this evening with additional sites expected to register. Ben Huh, CEO of Cheezburger, which operates multiple humor websites, stated in a recent Tweet that his company’s sites would blackout as well.

Wikipedia posted on its site saying, “Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge”, and also wrote on its English site that the SOPA legislation is something “that could fatally damage the free and open internet.” The site also added that it would be blacking out for 24 hours in order to raise awareness.

It seems as if three officials from the Obama administration issued a statement opposing both SOPA and PIPA . The officials stated that online piracy by foreign websites was a very serious problem in America that requires a serious legislative response but that SOPA and PIPA aren’t it. The three officials also stated that they would not support legislation that “diminishes freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk or undermines the dynamic, innovative global internet.”

It will be a dark day for internet users should these laws get passed. However, if there is one thing I have learned from blogging, it’s that internet users are many, they are powerful and you do NOT want to screw with their internet…

$3,000 Birthday Cake for LeBron James Gets Rejected

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

LeBron James birthday cakeWhen a person becomes famous, for whatever reason, often they are usually showered with lots of free stuff. Whether it be clothes, technology, gift bags or, in some absurd cases, cars, celebrities (the ones with more money than all of us) are for some reason just given things. Take LeBron James for instance. The former Cleveland Cavaliers star and current Miami Heat player was offered a free birthday cake for his 27th that was estimated to be worth $3,000. The best part is, though, that the “King” rejected the cake, opting for something else instead.

However, the fact that the cake wasn’t used was very disappointing, and upsetting to the person who baked the 5-level extravaganza, local Miami baker Alethea Hickman. Hickman wasn’t offered any money for the giant cake but was instead promised a ton of free publicity for designing and baking the cake that was to be presented to James on his 27th birthday at a local Miami nightspot. Hickman was promised a “sponsorship”, no physical money, according to Jared Galbut, the man who handled James’ party.

However, things didn’t go so well when the cake wasn’t used. According to Hickman, “I don’t even know where my cake went. I was mortified. They had me do it in the middle of the holiday crush and I hired additional people. Someone needs to pay.”

Galbut stated that James’ people decided that the cake wasn’t fit for the Miami star. “It just wasn’t what was expected. When LeBron’s people saw it, they just didn’t want to use it and decided to bring their own cake. I can’t tell LeBron James what birthday cake to eat. It’s LeBron James, for Christ’s sake.” Galbut was also asked how much he would be willing to pay for the cake if asked. “That cake couldn’t be more than $600. It’s flour, eggs and water.”

It’s actually a little more than just flour, eggs and water. Also included in the value of the cake are the workers it took (the extra ones hired on for the job), their wages, delivery costs, lost revenue from other potential clients and also all the decorative ingredients and other ingredients aside from eggs, flour and water.

Regardless, it probably wasn’t the best idea for Hickman to offer the cake free of charge and in exchange for free publicity. The amount of revenue generated by the publicity probably wouldn’t equal the amount of resources that went in to making the cake in the first place. It hasn’t even been determined if LeBron himself saw the cake. Who knows, he may have loved it!

The lesson here? Don’t give away free things if they would normally cost you a lot of money and there is NEVER a need for a $3,000 cake, ever.

“Maggie Eats Healthier”: Second Opinions on “Maggie Goes on a Diet”

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Maggie Eats Healthier

Not too long ago I wrote an article on a recently released children’s book called “Maggie Goes on a Diet“. I criticized the book for sending the wrong message to young, impressionable girls and claimed that the book promoted the idea that in order to be successful, happy and popular you had to be skinny. Regrettably, I said all these things without ever reading the book. I was influenced by the large amount of media attention and negative press the book was harboring and, unfortunately, I jumped on the bandwagon without looking at the book from a neutral standpoint.

Well, my “burn him at the stake” attitude about both the author and the book caught up with me as Paul M. Kramer, the author of the book, contacted me. Naturally Mr. Kramer was displeased with my interpretation of his book and felt like I unjustly “judged the book by its cover”, which I can confirm that I did. Mr. Kramer sent me a copy of the book to read personally so that I could do what I should have done in the first place, read it, and give my personal opinion about it instead of following the crowd. And that’s exactly what I did.

I should start off by saying that the version of the book I received was slightly modified from the original. The book I received was titled “Maggie Eats Healthier”. Aside from dropping the word “diet” from the title altogether, the book also changed one line of the book from “The very next morning Maggie’s diet had begun” to “The very next morning Maggie’s lifestyle change had begun”. To many, as well as myself, dropping the word diet from the book seemed to make a huge difference in my perception.

The book was no longer about putting a young girl on a diet and instead was about a young girl, unhappy with herself and how others treated her, who wanted to do something about it. In general, the story centers around 14 year-old Maggie who is overweight, has low self-esteem and is constantly bullied by her peers for being fat. In response to all of this, Maggie decides to start exercising, eating healthier and generally trying to better her own, personal lifestyle.

After reading the book myself, I agree that I was initially too harsh on the content. I honestly do believe, however, that the word “diet” has such a negative undertone to it that using it in a children’s book seems a little wrong. However, Mr. Kramer’s revision to “eating healthier” is a far better way to get his message across and, in my opinion, a much easier pill for the public to swallow. Healthy eating habits should be learned at a young age and diets, I feel, are a very adult thing.

Getting into the content of the book, I feel that it serves multiple purposes. For one, it brings to light the cruelty of children. I believe that the book can teach children that just because somebody is a little bigger than them doesn’t mean that they are any less of a person and that they too have feelings that can be just as easily hurt as their own. The book also shows just how much this bullying can influence children. As a result of the bullying, Maggie turns to food for comfort but it only numbs the pain, it doesn’t make it go away.

The book also brings to the table the issue of self-esteem. Self-esteem is very important, especially with children. Low self-esteem can have devastating effects on a child’s physical and mental health, as well as their performance in school. When Maggie begins to eat healthier, her self-esteem increases, she feels better about herself, she is happier and her performance in school even increases. I think that this book sends the right message to children about having confidence in themselves and being able to accomplish anything if they just put their minds to it.

I will say that I felt some of the lines in the book would be a little inappropriate for very young girls. When the book was first listed on Amazon, it was listed a book for children ages 4 to 8. Mr. Kramer personally told me that this is incorrect and I agree. I personally feel like the book is appropriate for children ages 10 to 13. Around this time children (girls especially) start maturing and this is one of the most important phases in their development.

This book can teach children many things. It can teach them that eating healthy and exercising is important and that it is extremely important to have self-esteem and self-confidence. It can also teach kids that picking on other kids and bullying them, especially because of their weight, is never okay and is not something that they should ever do.

The fact that Maggie never really goes on a diet is the main thing in this book. All she really does is cut out junk food (though she does allow herself one normal-sized treat a week), eat healthier foods and exercise. By doing so, Maggie feels better about herself and actually betters herself as well. I will say that the book does lightly imply that she becomes popular as a result of becoming fit. I would not go as far as to say that the flat out message is “you have to be skinny to be popular” but I could see some people interpreting it that way. I would suggest a page or two of the book could have been devoted to telling about the people that were mean apologizing to Maggie after she becomes healthy.

Overall, my initial judgment of the book was wrong. I think that this book could help decrease the growing threat of childhood obesity, which has tripled in the last 20 years, or at least shed some light on the issue. I do believe that the revisions to the title and the few lines in the book were necessary. The word “diet” sends the wrong message to people everywhere and can cause some pretty vicious attacks. It makes me very sad when I see a little girl who is overweight or obese, especially at such a young age. If this book can help even one girl, it will all have been worth it.

I would like to express my apologies to Mr. Kramer for my unjust criticism of his book and applaud him on writing about something that most authors probably wouldn’t ever consider writing.

Short-throw projectors only require half the projection distance of traditional projectors. The projector can be placed just a foot or so from the screen. This is nice because it keeps the projector and screen near each other instead of having a long throw projector that people can accidentally block.

Military Dumps Remains of Fallen Soldiers in Landfill

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

King George County landfillWe all know how painful it is when a friend or loved one is deployed to defend our country. Seeing someone you care about willingly go to risk their lives to ensure that you remain safe is never easy. What is even harder is when that loved one doesn’t come back. Only able to ease the pain slightly, the “no man left behind” policy of our nation’s armed forces has allowed thousands of departed soldiers to be properly honored for their ultimate sacrifice.

However, it has recently been discovered that not every fallen soldier receives the respect owed to them for laying down their life for their country. In what has come to be known, in my opinion, as the most disgusting, disrespectful and appalling thing to be done in recent memory, the Air Force has admitted to dumping the incinerated partial remains of no less than 274 American troops in a Virginia landfill, a number far less than the military previously acknowledged before halting the secretive process nearly three years ago.

What makes this practice so infuriating to me is not the location of these solders’ final resting place but the fact that the landfill dumping was concealed from families who had authorized the military to dispose of the remains in a dignified and respectful manner. In addition to that, there are currently no plans to alert those families, even now, about what happened to their loved ones.

This disgusting and dishonorable practice was uncovered by The Washington Post last month, which was able to document a single case of a soldier whose partial remains were sent to the King George County landfill in Virginia. The new data uncovered shows the actual scope of this crime for the first time, which has become an extremely embarrassing episode for the Dover Air Base, the main port of entry for our fallen heroes.

What’s more is that this practice was never formally authorized under military policies or regulations and was also not disclosed to senior Pentagon officials who conducted a high-level review of cremation policies at the Dover mortuary back in 2008.

Officials from both the Pentagon and the Air Force stated last month that the only way to determine how many remains went to the landfill would require searching through the records of over 6,300 fallen troops whose remains have passed through the mortuary since 2001.

Right now it is believed that 976 fragments from 274 military personnel were cremated, incinerated and taken to the landfill between 2004 and 2008. According to the Air Force, an additional 1,762 unidentified remains were collected from the battlefield and disposed of in a similar manner. This makes the total number of incinerated fragments dumped in the landfill in excess of 2,700.

To say that this infuriates me is an understatement. These extremely brave men and women gave their lives so that we could stay safe at night. They died protecting a country they believed in and loved and this is how we treat them? This is how we show them respect? By dumping their ashes with a bunch of garbage? Absolutely not! This cannot stand and immediate action against the Dover Air Force Base and all those knowingly involved is required.

This is not only a disgrace and a dishonor to these fallen heroes but also to their friends, family, loved ones and all of us in this country that can sleep a little safer as a result of these terrible sacrifices. My condolences go out to the families of these soldiers and I pray that their spirits can find peace.

Michele Bachmann Insulted by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Introduction Song

facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Late Night with Jimmy FallonIt is no surprise that Hollywood and celebrities are pretty much entirely one-sided when it comes to politics. Nearly anything that has a media outlet will use it to bash politics (mainly Republicans and Conservatives) and that includes late night talk shows, specifically Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which has recently found itself in some pretty hot water with politicians and Michele Bachmann.

Host of the Late Night show Jimmy Fallon apologized via Twitter to Conservative Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann on Tuesday after the comedian and talk show host’s house band played an offensive song as Bachmann’s entrance music for her Monday appearance.

Fallon’s house band, known as The Roots, played Fishbone’s song “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” to welcome Bachmann to the show. However most people, including Bachmann herself, didn’t notice until band drummer Questlove hinted at it in a Twitter post following the show.

Fallon apologized on Tuesday via Twitter saying, “I’m honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I’m so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back. Actually it was a fun interview. She helped me with my Minnesota accent. (I still sound Irish).”

However, Fallon’s apology isn’t enough for Bachmann who accused NBC of sexism for not issuing an apology on behalf of the network. Bachmann told Fox News in an interview on Wednesday that whoever in the band chose the song should be disciplined or fired and suggested NBC has a double standard in how it treats Republican women.

Bachmann stated, “This wouldn’t be tolerated if it were Michelle Obama, and it shouldn’t be tolerated for a conservative woman,” while also calling the song choice an “outrage”. Surprisingly, Bachmann is not the only person complaining. The choice of song came under scrutiny from all sides of the political spectrum. Democratic New York Representative Nita Lowey trashed the show for the song in a statement to Politico and also called on NBC, Fallon and the band to apologize.

Lowey stated, “The choice of song to introduce Michele Bachmann on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ last night was insulting and inappropriate. I do not share Michele Bachmann’s politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect. No female politician – and no woman – should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night.”

I fear that NBC, Jimmy Fallon and the band will get nothing more than a slap on the wrist or a stern talking to due to Bachmann’s political affiliation. If the tables were turned and a democrat was poked fun at, it would be a whole different story. Can’t we at least have some form of entertainment that doesn’t have to stick its political ideologies in whenever it gets the opportunity?
