We're still unemployed and our country is broke. And other stuff the media skipped this week.

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

If you were an alien, the outer space kind, not the illegal kind, and you watched any of the major news networks, you’d have no idea that we have a $13,310,379,000,000.00 debt, or that we lost another 500,000 jobs last week. What you would have learned is that a majority of Americans think Obama is a Muslim and that there’s a mosque/community center being contested in lower Manhattan. That’s pretty much it. Kind of scary huh?

The problem is, Obama’s religion isn’t relevant to my quest to find gainful employment. As more and more Americans become unemployed, give up on finding new employment and struggle to put food on the table and keep the lights on, we all should be focusing on our future, not our president’s past. I realize it really matters to some, but at this point in time it doesn’t really increase my likelihood of finding a job. The most frustrating aspect of it is, I can’t really blame the media; no one has a good solution, not even Congress! But that doesn’t mean that we should be sweeping it all under the rug and ignoring the number one problem in this country: JOBS!

Aside from the lack of jobs in this country, we have a growing national debt. $13 trillion dollars is nothing to sneeze at. Again, very minimal coverage. But what will get covered: Lindsay Lohan’s jail stay. Are you kidding me??? Who cares about a failure of an actress serving time at the LA County Country Club for a few weeks? I certainly don’t. Now, I’d care if she was going to get all her Hollywood friends to donate their salaries to pay down some of our debt, but they’re not, so I don’t. I realize that we need a break from all of the bad news we’re being inundated with on a daily basis, but we can’t forget about the stuff that truly matters and that are truly a threat to our security, well being and growth.

Instead of listening to real debate about how Obama’s mortgage aid program has been an utter failure and complete waste of money, we learned about a former Illinois governor’s hair, weird Elvis obsession and trial verdict. Yes! Precisely what I wanted to know about. (Ok, I had a slight interest in the trial, simply because it’s been a hot mess since it started. Sue me! I love the occasional train wreck!) The thing here is, The Blago Trial is big-ish news, and corrupt politicians are a serious national concern, but it’s turned into nothing but a damn circus and very reminiscent of the O.J. trial; which, at it’s conclusion was nothing but a big huge joke. The troublesome issue here is that many Americans were really behind the president’s $75 billion housing program. Many people felt the money would be helpful to fix the problem, and now we’re learning that it not only failed, but 50% of the people who participated in the program have failed too! It has done nothing to slow the increase of foreclosures and the decrease of property values.

I’m sure there are a hundred stories I’m missing here, but I can’t write forever. The thing is, there is so much happening, I’m starting to think Americans are suffering from “bad news fatigue”. I know I get burned out sometimes and have to take a break. But I fear that now it seems to be getting to the media too, or maybe they just don’t know what to report on anymore, it’s all crazy and insane out there. That said, it is easier to discuss Lohan-gate than to tackle the pesky and often headache-inducing topic of unemployment. Hell, I think I’m fatigued and I just barely scratched the surface on the subjects.

Is A Media Bailout Next?

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Big news this week has been Newsweek being sold for $1 to Sidney Harman, a stereo mogul. With such news in the lime light I think it’s a relevant time to bring up the idea being tossed around Washington and among some media elites: bailouts for the media.

First, lets talk about this business of bailouts. I’ve been hard pressed to find many people, right or left, who think the bank bailouts have been a good thing. (Ok, I know there will be several people ready to prove me wrong there. I know there are leftists that believe bailing out GM was a good thing and I’m pretty sure those people are standing in line waiting to get their hands on a $41,000 Chevy Volt, right?!) The problem is TARP is not to9 big to fail. It can and it will. The amount of money that has gone into these bailouts has been outrageous and the numbers are so high that no one even bats an eye when they hear amounts like “$200 billion”, that’s congressional pocket change compared to our $13 trillion dollar debt.

But therein lies the problem. A $35 billion dollar “media bailout” is nothing compared to the nearly $800 billion dollar TARP bailout and many people tend to think, “well, it’s ONLY $35 billion, it’s not $800…it could be worse.” But the money isn’t my greatest concern.

The biggest worry I have with any sort of media bailout is that, as we found with the Journolist story, there are many journalists who wouldn’t even think twice about their journalistic integrity if they were given the power to influence public opinion. That scares me the most. I understand that journalists have a lot of power. Most of it is derived from the fact that for a number of years the only news we heard about was the news journalists and editors thought would sell papers, get ratings, and make their advertisers happy. They controlled the extent of our knowledge of our world around us. When your options are limited, your world view tends to be as well.

Then the internet came and killed it all. Ok, I’m only half joking. But within the past 15 years, citizen journalism has been making a great push. Every day citizens of the world are attempting to get the truth out while bypassing traditional mainstream media outlets. To be honest, I get more of my news from the blogosphere. No, I don’t take every blog I read as gospel, but I do click the links and check the sources, and I generally get the gist of it and move on. I have a feeling there are a lot of people who gather their daily news in a similar fashion. Whether it’s a blog feed reader, twitter, facebook or something else, I can assure you, there aren’t many people who wake up every morning and get excited to read their local newspaper, when the news they’re reading is at least 4-6 hours old at that point.

Do I think we need to save traditional media outlets? From what? Themselves? I mean, let’s be honest, they’re not failing because some evil corporation has a monopoly on the newspaper industry and is slowly taking over talk radio too. This failure is a prime example of how free markets work. The traditional media outlets are, pardon the pun, old news. The news that’s on my local newspaper’s website is more accurate and up to date than what’s in the daily paper, and that costs a quarter, I don’t have to pay for the website. Free is definitely cheaper than $0.25 last time I checked. Now newspaper companies are trying to find a way to be “internet relevant”. They’re selling more online advertising space than they are in their newspapers; they’re charging people to comment on their stories and some are making it work. But reality is, Americans aren’t going to pay for something when they can get it for free. So, this is where you come to a crossroads: do you ask Uncle Sam to give you a few more minutes to gasp for air, or do you go out with dignity and realize that the power is no longer in your hands?

We, the people, have a say here and we say, “It was nice to know you MSM, but we’re moving on to bigger, faster and slightly-less-government-controlled things. Adios!”

Liberal Media Plots To Save Obama And Kills The MSM In The Process

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

If you’ve followed politics for the past…well, forever, you know the media is not above denying a story air time to push an agenda. It’s been a little dirty “conspiracy” because no one could ever really prove such a blatant bias. No one was ever really able to pin down anything more than a “slight liberal slant” from an other wise “objective” journalist with anything more than an opinion. We needed hard proof. But now it’s all out there, thanks to the Daily Caller for uncovering emails from JournoList.

For those who depend on print and liberal media to get your “news” you may have never heard of JournoList. The Daily Caller has a good list of stories that cover the initial exposure to the final nail in the coffin. Here. Here. And Here. And in Dave Weigel’s own words, here.

The real meat doesn’t lie in the fact that this JournoList email list-serv exists, it’s what was happening behind the scenes as we all watched the 2008 presidential campaigns unfold. Liberal members of network, print, cable and internet media were conspiring to bury stories to protect then Presidential Candidate, Barack Obama. And I don’t use “conspiring” in a fear monger fashion, I use it because it is a fact. An undeniable truth. Supposed “objective journalists”, if there ever was such a thing, put a lot of work into burying the Rev. Wright story and to paint Republicans and the Right as racists.

According to The Daily Caller:

at several points during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate. Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage.

In one instance, Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent urged his colleagues to deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.

The list of organizations involved are stunning, to say the least. Time, Politico, The Huffington Post, et al played a very critical role in what people were learning about candidates and how opinions were being formed. The fact that their names were all over a conspiracy to “protect” a candidate not only shows blatant bias, but shows how much power they had and how much they knew they could get away with. They used this JournoList as a “war room” to organize and work out their plans to skew the American opinion of Rev. Wright and Obama’s connection to him.

Thomas Schaller, a columnist for the Baltimore Sun as well as a political science professor, upped the ante from there. In a post with the subject header, “why don’t we use the power of this list to do something about the debate?” Schaller proposed coordinating a “smart statement expressing disgust” at the questions Gibson and Stephanopoulos had posed to Obama. [Re: A debate in which the aforementioned moderators questioned Obama about Rev. Wright by asking, “Do you think Rev. Wright loves America as much as you do?”]

“It would create quite a stir, I bet, and be a warning against future behavior of the sort,” Schaller wrote.

Tomasky approved. “YES. A thousand times yes,” he exclaimed.

The members began collaborating on their open letter. Jonathan Stein of Mother Jones rejected an early draft, saying, “I’d say too short. In my opinion, it doesn’t go far enough in highlighting the inanity of some of [Gibson’s] and [Stephanopoulos’s] questions. And it doesn’t point out their factual inaccuracies …Our friends at Media Matters probably have tons of experience with this sort of thing, if we want their input.”

The Daily Caller story proved what so many of us knew back then, these “journalists” were using illusions to convince people that what they were seeing was not real and the things being said about Rev. Wright and Obama were simply the Right being typical racist fear-mongers. Even while many of them knew that defending Rev. Wright was disgusting, they had to protect Obama. It’s no wonder stories like Breitbart’s ACORN investigation, never really got the coverage it deserved.

Andrew Breitbart said it best today when he said, “The only way that the media will recover from the horrifying discoveries found in the Journolist is to investigate and investigate until every guilty reporter, professor and institution is laid bare begging America for forgiveness. Will they do it?”

My answer: No. They won’t. They don’t have the guts.

9/11 Truther, Lawrence O’Donnell, Loses His Mind–LIVE!

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Truthers can be a scary lot. As seen in this video of 9/11 troofer, Lawrence O’Donnell on the Morning Joe. He viciously attacks Marc Thiessen sternly pointing his finger at the camera while saying that Bush invited 9/11. From there you hear Joe Scarborough in the background saying, “Lawrence…Lawrence…” off camera he’s probably looking nervously at a producer or boom mic operator trying to figure out who’s going to come and tackle O’Donnell like a linebacker to make him shut up. But no one comes to save O’Donnell from his on screen meltdown. Instead, we get a full minute of insanity. Thiessen tries to form a rebuttal but can’t quite overpower the crazy.

My favorite line comes from Joe: “We’re going to break, RIGHT NOW,” as he pulls his mic closer to his mouth, “We’ll be right back and I’m going to be interviewing Marc, by myself.”

Matthews: "Dude, I totally almost forgot Obama was black for an hour!"

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Yeah…I’m sorry folks but it’s another beautiful reminder of why we all love laugh at Chris Matthews. This guy…I mean…seriously…wow…I am nearly speechless, like Obama without his trusty teleprompter. (ba-da-dum)

Via: Snark and Boobs

Matthews is THAT guy, you know the one, the one who says “I’m not racist, I had a black friend in college.” That’s totally who Chris Matthews is.

Olbermann’s lead was about how Obama was talking to Americans…not congress, and suddenly Crazy Chris spins it into this post-racial rant, which is really just bottom line racist, in my opinion. I think most Americans, and correct me if I’m wrong, don’t view Obama as some Black Dude in the White House, he’s just a Dude in the White House, messing things up like most of the other Dudes that came before him.

His race has nothing to do with his inability to lead, Jimmy Cater was white AND a peanut farmer and he was terrible too. Does that mean I’m a peanutist? No, I’m eating peanut M&M’s right now. Oh wait, I think I just pulled a Matthews…lemme call the ACLU quick to make sure I didn’t offend anyone. I’ll get back to you guys on the status of my peanutism.

“I was watching, I say, wait a minute, he’s an African-American guy in front of a bunch of other white people. And here he is President of the United States, and we’ve completely forgotten that tonight.”

Dear Crazy Chris, isn’t post-racial America SUPPOSED to forget he’s black? Isn’t post-racial America suppose to see past the color of one’s skin and look at the content of their character? No? Really? I could have sworn that’s what Martin Luther King Jr. would have wanted. Damn public schools! Again, I’ve apparently been misinformed.

Well, keep trying little buddy, one of these days you’ll get it.

(The ACLU called me back and said I’m not a peanutist, and they’re charging me a $15 “am I an -ist or not?” service fee. Totally worth the money!)

MSNBC to host 2-hr special on race: "Hope and Fear in Obama's America"

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Yes, that title is correct, MSNBC is going to to have a 2-hour special event on race relations in America. Hosted by the king of racial lies himself, Chris Matthews and Tom Joyner, host of “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” and author of “The Fly Jock’s Blog”. Here’s an excerpt from his blog about what the special will be like:

On the King Holiday Weekend 2010, I will co-host an MSNBC town hall special about race in America with Chris Matthews. This is also an important story because it will give me and you a rare opportunity to participate in a much needed discussion about whether racism is still a relevant topic now that President Obama has been elected. Of course, we know that it is. But now, we will get a chance to say why.

Having an audience of 8 million mostly African-American people is always a good thing, but it’s a crucial thing when mainstream America wants to know what’s on our minds. Together, we can give provide honest questions and answers about racism in this country.

In the days leading up to January 18th, I will be using this blog, BlackAmericaWeb.com, the Text Tom club, the morning show and all of its resources to garner your opinions about some of the specific topics that will be addressed on the program. Among the topics: Does Post-Racial America Exist? (Yep.) Is Affirmative Action Necessary? (duh!) and Generational Colorblindness. Isn’t it funny that usually the only people who claim they don’t see color always end up telling you they’re married to a black person?

Of course, the traditional, easy way to tackle these topics is to get the same old people to say the same old things. Not knocking any of the people who have sat on panel after panel after panel to talk about race in America in past years. But it’s almost impossible to get any new perspectives on issues unless we solicit information from varied sources, and from what I can see, at this point, that’s what this MSNBC town hall Meeting will attempt to do. Chris Matthews and I will not talk to a panel of your “usual suspects” about hopes and fears in Obama’s America.

So, in case you missed it, the show date is January 18th, at 10pm. Be sure to tune in. It should be interesting…to stay the least.

Olbermann and Maddow say CIA hid intelligence on panty bomber with intent to hurt Obama.

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

(h/t Ace of Spades and Olbermann Watch)

Now, I know Keith Olbermann is crazy. And I know for a fact Rachel Maddow is a few fries short of a happy meal, but the level of pure insanity these two nut job maniacs have reached is a brand new one.

“So now we don’t just have terrorists trying to kill us, the right is trying to kill Americans with the sole purpose of bringing down Our Dear Leader President Obama.” -Keith Olbermann

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! Just listen as John Gibson lays it all out on his show.

Brit Hume tells Tiger to convert

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

Ok, here’s the video….I’ll comment below:

Alright, first of all, it’s about time those damn righties give me something to write about. (hahaha…) Second of all, “Ohhh Brit…” I mean, don’t get me wrong, I really do like Brit as a political commentator, I do, but to encourage someone to convert to Christianity to be properly forgiven for his adulterous ways is just…wth-ish/isthisreallynews?

I’m not usually one to get all religious on your asses because I honestly have a “to each their own” mentality to religion. (There are exceptions to that rule, such as killing in the name of your religion, that is just plain wrong and a moral issue, not so much a religious one.) I’m also not one to tell you that your religion or lack of religion is wrong, that’s not my thing. I do think Brit probably could have taken a different approach to this topic, but he chose to not only attack the Buddhist faith but he told Tiger to “turn to the Christian faith and you can be a great example to the world.” Ugh. That just makes my skin crawl with TV evangelical creepiness. And yes, I would feel the exact same way if Mr. Hume had told Tiger to convert to Buddhism, Paganism, Islam, Judaism, Atheism or Communism while bashing another religion.

All that being said, I’m not so much bothered that religion was brought into the conversation, it is bothersome that one religion was bashed and another promoted as the more “forgiving and redemptive” or the RIGHT path for Tiger to follow. But I digress…

…to each their own…

Rock the Vote to American youth: "Use sex to sell Obamacare."

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

(h/t: Ace at Ace of Spades HQ)

The newest rock the vote campaign is surely one of their finest works. The video (below) basically states that if you’re for health care reform you should use sex as a tool (seriously, that pun was unintended) not only to buy poppers on Amazon, but also to tell potential suitors or more accurately, sex partners, that you won’t sleep with them because their views on health care are different than yours.

Yes, really. Yes, Rock the Vote is telling young voters to use sex appeal, and more blatantly, SEX to SELL Obamacare. WHAT THE….oh hell, just watch the video.

Apparently their logical arguments to support health care reform are all used up. But hey, at least they got this great little pledge:

We pledge ourselves to the health and liberty of young Americans. And to government for the people. We pledge to educate ourselves to stand against those who fight us. With mind, body and spirit. And to never f***ing you if you are against us. We will vote against you, work against you and once again, just in case you forgot, never, ever, never, ever, never ever, never ever f*** you.

Bipartisan? Yeah right. A classy bunch of individuals? Not a chance. Teaching young people how to get involved in the political process? Right on target! “Dear young people across America, if you can’t use your intellect to get involved in the political process, don’t worry, you can use your body. Sex sells…Obamacare, b**ches.”

NOTE: For those wondering, yes, that is Susan Sarandon’s daughter. The resemblance is striking, no?

Break-up of the year? Olbermann and Obama to end year-long lovefest??

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusby feather

H/T: SnarkandBoobs at IOTW

I know, I spend a lot of time harping on Olbermann here, and that’s mostly because he’s an easy target because his bias is always showing. But truth be told, I was hit by a bit of “shock and awe” when I saw that he decided to announce to the world his contempt for the Health Care Reform Bill last night.

(Deathby1000papercuts.com has the video, I suggest you watch it, it’s nearly unbelievable.)

Olbermann says:

“The Senate Bill with the mandate must be defeated, if not in the Senate, then in the House.

It’s amazing to even hear those words coming out of his mouth. Especially given his undying love support for Obama this year. I can’t even imagine the level of disappointment and sadness he’s feeling now.

But then he goes on to say, in an even more empowered and defiant tone:

And if still the bill, and this heinous mandate become law, there is yet further reaction required. I call on all those whose conscience urges them to fight to use the only weapon that will left to us if this bill as currently constituted becomes law. We must not buy federally-mandated insurance, if this cheesy counterfeit of reform is all we can buy. No single payer? No sale. No public option? No sale. No Medicare buy-in? No sale.

Whoa!! So what you’re saying Keith is that YOU’RE against the whole federally mandated health insurance plan?? You’re against the government FORCING people to purchase their crap coverage? I’d pat you on the back if I wasn’t rolling on the floor laughing at your loss.

The best part, and this must have just been a dagger to his little cold heart:

And I hereby pledge that I will not buy this perversion of health-care reform. Pass this at your peril, senators. And sign it at yours, Mr. President. I will not buy this insurance. Brand me a law-breaker if you choose. Fine me if you will. Jail me if you must.

Now, I highly doubt that Obama is going to be as heartbroken as Ol’ Olbermann is, but its rather striking that even the lefties are ticked off about this bill. Actually, it’s pretty scary, because you know once the Left starts eating their own something is wrong.

And maybe the most ridiculous part about the whole rant on health care is when Olbermann segwayed to Maddow where she says, “Thank you Keith, I know…I know that was a difficult conclusion to arrive at.”

Kind of like when you decide it’s time for a divorce. Again, it would be sad if it wasn’t so hilarious to see a couple hardcore Obama-lovers realize “The One” isn’t. Boohoo!
